There is a general assumption that once adult children leave the nest, their parents will have a desire to sell up and head north, south or west of the Sydney metropolitan area for a sea or tree change. While this is the choice of some, a recent study conducted by National Seniors Australia found that people over 50 overwhelmingly prefer to downsize to areas that are easily accessible, familiar and close to where they have family and social networks. What’s more, the not-for-profit organisation found this to be the case for both couples and seniors living on their own.
Sydney’s South West growth corridor is a prime example of an area where this goal is possible to achieve. The rapidly growing area still offers relatively affordable options for first homebuyers, meaning an increasing number of young families are settling here, thereby enabling over 50s to live near their children.
At Antegra, we had a vision to create a community in which couples and singles over 50 could purchase their own high quality, affordable home in the heart of the South West growth corridor that would give them the best of both worlds – the opportunity to live close to their family, while simultaneously downsizing the to-do list and giving them access to extensive facilities within a community of like-minded people.
Alex Tarasenko, General Manager of Antegra Estate explains, “Our estate offers people a desirable lock and leave lifestyle, giving them the freedom to travel as often as they wish knowing their home is safe and secure and their garden is maintained while they’re away.”
Terry and Anne Heath recently moved from their home in Mount Annan into Antegra Estate – newly retired, they were ready to sell and move on. Purchasing at Antegra on the recommendation of a friend, the Heaths say they have never been happier or more financially secure.
“We have everything we could wish for here – a beautiful home, the company of great friends, fantastic facilities, and the peace of mind knowing we can visit our kids and grandkids, who live just a few minutes away, and come home at any time of the day or night without being concerned for our safety. We feel very secure and happy here.”
